Living Gardens

What do we do?

We build agroecological gardens within rural schools: greenhouses adapted to the southern climate, raised beds, composting systems, and medicinal plant gardens. Each structure is designed in collaboration with the school's students and teachers and built by their own hands. The garden remains at the school, produces food throughout the school year, and serves as a living classroom for all subjects.

Each garden has an educational gardener, a local professional who leads the cultivation and practical classes, and who keeps the garden alive between seasons.

Our network of gardens

Green Hope Garden

Villa Cerro Castillo, Aysén Region
2021

The students themselves chose the name. What started in 2020 as a recycling center is now a complete garden: greenhouse, raised beds, composters, a medicinal plant garden, and, since 2024, an outdoor classroom built with the support of Patagonia Inc. thanks to sponsorship from Trek Relief.

Antu Carrillo has led the garden since the beginning. Every week, groups of students come to learn and work, and the community joins in workshops open throughout the year.

Aonikenk Garden

Puerto Ingeniero Ibáñez, Aysén Region
2026

Five years after planting the first plot in Villa Cerro Castillo, Renoval opened a second garden in Puerto Ibáñez. Everything we learned building the first one allowed us to advance in days: today the school has a greenhouse, composters, and a medicinal plant garden, all built side by side between the school, the community, and a group of Trek Relief volunteers.

Catalina Hermosilla has led the garden since its opening. Every week, classes come to learn and work, and the community joins in the activities organized there throughout the year.
