What do we do?
Building the garden is only half the job. The other half is the teaching that takes place within it.
Our methodology transforms the garden into a living classroom, where learning happens through doing: planting, composting, and harvesting. The content is rooted in the local area, incorporating native species, the seasons of the southern region, and traditional plant knowledge, and is aligned with the national curriculum guidelines, so the garden is integrated into what is taught in the classroom.
Teacher training
We train teachers so that the program continues beyond our own time. Together with La Chacra Verde, we offer workshops ranging from composting and planting to medicinal plants and socio-emotional well-being in the garden. In 2025, we conducted eight teacher workshops at the Cerro Castillo Rural Bicentennial High School.
A curriculum that moves
We are systematizing five years of fieldwork into a shared and transferable curriculum, so that each new school in the network starts with a program already tested in the field.
This curriculum is now at the heart of Renoval, transforming individual gardens into a regional network. It is constantly evolving and growing with each season. In 2024, the Aysén Local Public Education Service (SLEP Aysén) formally incorporated agroecology into its regional curriculum, the framework that makes it possible to implement this program in any public school in Aysén.
